Qualified Social Work
We have long experience of the GSCC registration process for qualified Social Worker posts.
Social Work qualifications vary in name and length from country to country. 2009 sees the introduction of the Bachelors across Europe. Earlier qualifications in Germany include 4 year diploma courses and 5 year university degree courses, some of which are still taught. Some courses include one full year of practical placement leading to a state recognition.
Certified translations of qualification certificates are provided as part of Jacaranda’s recruitment checks.
Social Pedagogy
Many European countries have a strong tradition in Social Pedagogy which is an academic discipline that takes theories from education, sociology, psychology and philosophy. It deals with human learning, well-being and individuals’ inclusion in society. See Social Pedagogy for more details.
- 3 or 4 year vocational trainings incorporating a high level of practical experience as well as the underpinning theory
- 3 or 4 year university of applied science degrees, incorporating practical placements
- 5 year university qualifications, including practical placements
Social Pedagogues can register with the GSCC and work as qualified Social Workers. They also often chose to do more direct work with clients.
European practice does not distinguish between qualified and unqualified work in the same way that we do in the UK and you are more likely to find a degree qualified workforce in settings where the UK equivalent would be trained to NVQ standard.
Social Care Professionals
Jacaranda provides candidates with and without formal qualifications for social care work, ranging from residential care for the elderly to support work for adults with disabilities, residential childcare and many other areas.
Often Social Pedagogues and Educators with degree, vocational trainings and apprenticeships will apply for social care jobs because they prefer more direct work with clients.
