Social Pedagogy Qualifications

We are offering the Crossfields Institute Level 3 and Level 5 Diplomas in Social Pedagogy for people working in care and education across the age range.

Social pedagogy is highly relevant for inter-professional practice in educational and care settings across the life course. Successful graduates of the diploma qualifications meet the SPPA Standards of Proficiency in social pedagogy and may carry the title Social Pedagogy Practitioner.

The Crossfields Institute Level 3 Diploma in Social Pedagogy

This is a 47-credit qualification and is regulated by Ofqual and divided into 7 units:

  • Unit 1: Key theories and principles in social pedagogy
  • Unit 2: Learning perspectives on human development
  • Unit 3: Communication and understanding lifeworlds
  • Unit 4: Building meaningful relationships
  • Unit 5: Creativity in working with individuals, groups, and communities
  • Unit 6: Safer practice from a social pedagogical perspective
  • Unit 7: Observation and reflective practice within a social pedagogical culture

The qualification consists of an 8-day, face-to-face course, which draws on experiential, active and reflective learning methods to:

  • Develop practice by integrating social pedagogical theories and principles
  • Practice with greater confidence, creativity and informed by theory
  • Enhance important interpersonal skills such as communication, relational and reflective skills

We also offer an Information Day and a further face-to-face assessment and feedback today, so this requires a total of 10 days face-to-face. You will have access to resources in our virtual learning environment and be supported in your learning and assessment. Assignments include written and reflective work, a video presentation, reflective group discussion and a creative scrapbook. This qualification offers progression to further study and development, including our SPPA endorsed Level 5 Diploma in Social Pedagogy.

The Crossfields Institute Level 5 Diploma in Social Pedagogy

This 60-credit qualification is regulated by Ofqual and has a particular focus on social pedagogical leadership and organisational development. It consists of 3 integrated modules:

  • Social pedagogy in relationship-centred practice
  • Developing leadership skills in social pedagogy
  • Social pedagogy in a social and political context

Taught face to face, the 12-day course at the heart of this qualification draws on experiential, active and reflective learning methods to:

  • Develop practice and organisational culture by integrating social pedagogical theories and principles
  • Lead with greater confidence, intention and creativity
  • Enhance important interpersonal skills such as communication, relational and reflective skills
  • Develop strength-based, ethical and reflective leadership skills

You will have access to our virtual learning environment, one-to-one tutorial supervision and ongoing support in your learning and assessment. Assessment includes essays, presentations, and a creative practice project.
